The National Council on Disability has just released National Disability Policy, and can be found at this link NCD Progress Report
Those of us in the disability field are not surprised that the Council found that "people with disabilities have lower rates of employment, lower annual earnings, lower educational attainment and achievement; lack adequate access to housing, transportation, technology, and health care; and are more likely to live in poverty.
Furthermore, the current economic downturn is having a disproportionate negative impact on people with disabilities, and national trend data indicate a decline in many aspects of their quality of life."
The Progress Report also includes disability policy recommendations to improve the lives of people with disabilities including ending Medicaid's instututial bias for long-term care; increasing affordable, accessible, integrated housing; increased accessibility to transportation; improved educational outcomes, etc.
This is a "must read" for disability advocates!
