Our Mission

MOCEANS Center for Independent Living, Inc, is a consumer-driven, consumer-controlled organization serving all people with any disability, their families and allies in Monmouth and Ocean. We help people experiencing disability to solve problems, open minds and create opportunity. Moceans sponsors education, advocacy social connections and guidance to so people can choose how they live, work, and participate in the life of their community.

Our Board of Directors

Christine L. Matus, Esq. - Chairperson

Christine L. Matus was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and to the U.S. District Court of New Jersey in 1995. While in law school, she served as Senior Staff of the International Law Review, received the Outstanding Service Award and the highest academic award for the Civil Rights law clinic.  Her most recent awards include: 2012-2013, Winner of Ocean County Most Happening Lawyer; 2014-2015, Finalist of Ocean County Most Happening Lawyer; 2015 Special Needs Lawyer of the Year and 2016 Probate Lawyer of the Year by Corporate Live Wire.

Matthew Brazinski - Treasurer

Matthew Brazinski earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from The College of New Jersey and has built a career in the financial industry, gaining valuable experience as a fraud specialist, credit analyst, collections specialist and customer service representative.  Since 2021, he has sat on the Moceans board of directors.  He surfs all year and enjoys refurbishing and shaping surfboards in his leisure time. Matthew is also an active member of Grace Bible Church in Allenwood, NJ, where he volunteers, participates, and helps to arrange their men's basketball league, youth programs, and community meetings.

John Nicklin - Director

John Nicklin is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County, NJ. After 24 years in banking, he moved to sales with Star Installations, Inc's. I have served on the board of Officers for Monmouth County’s United Way from 2009 to 2012 and currently serve MOCEANS Center for Independent Living Business Advisory Panel. John served on event committees for Centra State medical Center and Ladacin network. I am Past member of the Exchange Club of Freehold and the Manasquan -Brielle Rotary 2006-2010.

Dion Johnson

Dion Johnson is a Financial Professional with a proven track record of success in the financial services industry. He specializes in integration, financial research, estate planning, succession planning, business continuity planning, disability insurance, long-term care insurance, Medicare insurance, health insurance, and life insurance. His diverse expertise provides him with a unique perspective on challenges affecting the disability community and the solutions that are available.

Mark Jaffee

Mark Jaffee has served on the Moceans Center for Independent Living's board of Directors for over 2 years. He has studied International Business at the University of California, Irvine and Economics at Rutgers University. Mark's extensive background in retail & digital marketing, analytics and strategy enables him to leverage exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to develop innovative solutions, drive initiatives, and embody Moceans' values and ideals.  He lives in Ocean, NJ.

James Stewart

James Stewart has been an avid supporter of MOCEANS and has served on the board of directors for years. An employee of Citizen's Bank, James can always be counted on to attend and support Moceans events and consumers.

Reverend Oscar L. Cradle, Sr.

Rev. Cradle has lived in South Toms River, New Jersey for the past seventy years. Rev. Cradle attended Toms River Public Schools. Rev. Cradle attended Hampton University after graduating from Toms River High School in 1966. Rev. Cradle paved for nearly sixty years, finally having his own asphalt paving company.
Rev. Cradle battled heroin addiction for twenty-one (21) years. He finally broke the habit in 1991, thanks to his mother's relentless pushing and prayers, and has been drug-free for thirty-two (32) years. Rev. Cradle has been active in several community groups in South Toms River since that time: Oscar is the creator of the Wells Chapel AME Church Community Outreach Center, founder of the STR AA/NA, and the initiator of the STR Neighborhood Watch Committee. Oscar is the STR PAL co-founder and contributed to the development of a 2.2-million-dollar grant for an afterschool program and worked as its Site Coordinator for four years. He has served on the South Toms River Borough Council for seven terms and was elected Council President in 2004. Rev. Cradle was elected Mayor of South Toms River in 2014 and 2022.
 

Mary K. Conover

With over 20 years of experience, Mary K. Conover helps individuals, families and businesses at Allied Wealth Partners achieve their financial goals. She creates personalized plans covering insurance, retirement, college funding, and investments. Mary resides in NJ and is passionate about Rutgers sports and philanthropy.

Johanne Mayer

Johanne is an aunt and a dog mom, the two most important things in her life. She holds an associate degree from NJ Partners in Policymaking and has mentored kids with special needs at the same community college where she received her degree. Johanne's greatest passion is helping others and animals, and she actively volunteers for a variety of humanitarian organizations, including the dog rescue where she got her puppy. As a woman with Down's Syndrome, Johanne has spent most of her life dealing with the obstacles and discrimination that come with her disability, and it is this experience that drives her advocacy and policy work to create a more inclusive world for all. Johanne is the host of the podcast Inclusive Views and is also a member of the National Down Syndrome Society's Ambassador program.

Judyth Brown MS Ed - Executive Director

Executive Director Judyth Brown brings a wealth of experience to MOCEANS from a varied career. Judyth holds a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and has a background in community education. She served Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey as Education and Training Manager engaging in  professional training and community education. Judyth served adults with disabilities as Director of the Reminiscence Unit (memory care) of Sunrise at Lincroft. She has proudly  served her community as an  EMT and  EMT instructor. Judyth  lives in Ocean county.
