Accessibility is Important . . . and It's the Law
September 22, 2008 - As the beach season comes to an end, and visitors to the Jersey Shore return home and make plans for next year, work continues on making the Long Branch Pier Village Redevelopment Project accessible to everyone.
Stan Soden, Director of IL (Independent Living) Services at MOCEANS Center for Independent Living, is seen performing an evaluation for ADA Titlle III compliance of the ramp leading to the sandy beachfront.

MOCEANS, in collaboration with the City of Long Branch Code Enforcement, is working to make sure all city facilities are fully accessible to persons with disabilities.
Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees rights of equal access to places of public accommodation.
Title III covers a wide range of places including beaches, parks, retail stores and service businesses such as hotels, theaters, restaurants, doctors' and lawyers' offices, optometrists, dentists, banks, insurance agencies, museums, libraries, day care centers, recreational programs, social service agencies and private schools. It covers both profit and non-profit organizations. Unlike the employment section, which only applies to employers with 15 or more employees, this part of the ADA applies to all such offices and businesses, regardless of size.
